KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 27

CPN-Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal tabled his ideological and political report in the closed session of the party’s eighth general convention, stating that his party should fight for identity-based federalism from all three fronts — street, government, and the Parliament.

According to CPN-MC leader Matrika Prasad Yadav, Dahal stated in his political document that the party would use street struggle as the main movement for amending the constitution to ensure identity-based federalism.

Dahal also raised the issue of global warming, calling on party cadres and leaders to do the needful to protect the environment and the interests of the poor and marginalised communities, including indigenous nationalities and farmers who were more vulnerable to climate change.

Admits to making mistakes that led to his party paying political price

According to Yadav, Dahal said that the party should make its policies clear on how it wanted to achieve the goals of socialism.

Dahal admitted that he made mistakes in the past as a result of which the party paid a political price. “As Dahal has admitted his mistakes, leaders who supported him on policy decisions without raising any question should also accept their part of the blame,” another CPN-MC leader said.

CPN-MC Spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said that Dahal expressed commitment to protect the interests of masses.

In his political document, Dahal also stated that CPN-MC’s goal would be to achieve socialism and for that his party would remain active in bringing changes through peaceful revolution. Dahal also said that his party would remain committed to protecting national independence.

The party has formed 25 groups to discuss Dahal’s political document in closed-door sessions tomorrow.

CPN-MC leader Dev Prasad Gurung presented the party statute draft proposing 13 leaders in the central office bearers’ body.
