Nec Teacher Presents Research Status at IIT Roorkee

Kathmandu : Assistant Prof. Pratik Singh Thakuri of Nepal Engineering College (nec) participatedin a workshop entitled Himalayan Freshwater: Assessing the Services and Vulunrabity of Freshwater Ecosystem in Himalayas held on June 6 2023 at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.

On the occasion Assistant. Prof. Thakuri presented on the topic of “Freshwater Ecosystem and its services in Nepal” and participated on a panel discussion on ‘Freshwater Ecosystem across Himalayas’. Apart from this, two keynote speeches from Nepal were delivered at the workshop, one by Prof. Subodh Sharma (Kathmandu University) and another by Dr. Bandana Shakya, ICIMOD.

The program was organized by Department of Hydrology, IIT Roorkee under a multiyear project entitled ‘Freshwater Ecosystem: Accessing the Service and Vulunrabity across the Himalayas(REFRESH)’ funded by APN. The project is led by Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, IIT Roorkee.Nepal Engineering College (nec) is one of the collaborating partners and Assistant Professor, Pratik Singh Thakuri, is the Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) on the APN funded Project Referesh.

The project focuses on four river systems, namely, Beas (India), Marshyangdi (Nepal), PunatshangChhu (Bhutan), and Teesta (India), situated across the western, central, and eastern Himalayasto examine the present status and future prospects of freshwater ecosystems in Himalayan regions under the scenarios of variable monsoon rainfall and enhancing compound extremes through regional cooperation and collaboration.
