Koshi CM Karki seeking vote of confidence today
Kathmandu : Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Karki, is seeking a vote of confidence in the province assembly today.
According to Article 168 (3) of the Constitution, Karki became the Chief Minister on September 8. According to the constitution, a vote of confidence should be taken within 30 days of becoming the Chief Minister. The deadline is expiring today.
Earlier, Uddhav Thapa, who was appointed as the Chief Minister from the ruling alliance with the Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) was removed from the post by the Supreme Court after he used the vote of the Speaker while taking the vote of confidence.
After that, as the largest party in the province assembly, the leader of CPN (UML) Karki became the chief minister. But Karki also has a slim chance of getting a trust vote.
UML has 40 MPs in the province assembly. As Srijana Danuwar, the deputy speaker, cannot vote, only 39 MPs of UML seem to be in favor of Karki.
